The online shop for artist and painter Mary James Ketch
was inspired by the paper cut-outs of Henri Matisse. For a long time, I have struggled with portraying a particular skin color in my paintings. My paintings are often about particular emotions or states of being that are universal to many humans, and painting any skin color felt like a barrier at times. By abstracting and simplifying, through both form and color I arrived at the same place as my old friend Matisse. And while I do still enjoy the actual human form, in all its real shapes and colors, it was fun to move past it for a while. I hope you enjoy! -Mary
MARY JAMES KETCH STUDIO
"To become truly immortal, a work of art must escape all human limits: logic and common sense will only interfere. But once these barriers are broken, it will enter the realms of childhood visions and dreams."
Giorgio de Chirico
